On June 22, 2026, Microsoft announced plans for a new data center campus in Pecos, Texas, expected to expand its global data center capacity by approximately 2 GW. Microsoft said the project should support more than 6,000 construction jobs at peak build-out and create hundreds of permanent operating jobs.
The announcement is important because a load of this scale creates commercial opportunity far beyond the data center itself. Generation, transmission, fuel, controls, backup systems, storage, engineering, construction, maintenance, efficiency, and reliability providers all compete to serve the ecosystem around major digital infrastructure.
